Even if you’ve never participated in a token crowdsale before, you can become a project supporter in just three steps:
Step 1: Set up an Ethereum wallet
Users can choose from a variety of different wallets, as mentioned above. However, we usually use Jaxx or MyEtherWallet - here are two distinctions for your consideration.
- More user-friendly
- Ease of use
- Cross platform compatibility (Win, Linux, OS x, Android, iOS, Chrome)
- Integrated conversion between currencies (shapeshifting)
- Hardware wallet in development
See our detailed guide to learn how to set up your Jaxx wallet.
- MyEtherWallet (MEW)
- Web browser access only
- Allows integration with hardware wallets
- Allows you to have full control over your private key
- You are responsible for your private key security
See our detailed guide to learn how to set up your MyEtherWallet
In short, we can say that Jaxx is more flexible and more suited for beginners, while MyEtherWallet is really basic and a bit more complex to use.
You can buy ETH on exchanges in EUR, USD, or other cryptocurrencies, and deposit ETH into your Ethereum wallet. We’ve prepared a guide for Kraken, which supports multiple digital currencies, and a guide for Coinbase, which supports credit card orders but is available in fewer countries. Regardless of which exchange you choose, keep in mind that it can take a few days to get verified for trading, so make sure to buy enough ETH before the crowdsale begins.
Step 3: Support a project by contributing Ether (ETH) from your Ethereum wallet
When you have your wallet created and ready, wait for the crowdsale to begin. The crowdsale launch dates are posted on respective project contribution pages (you can find them on our website --> UPCOMING CROWDSALE section) or on our Priority Pass dashboard. You can apply for Priority Pass in order to get early access to crowdsales --> Priority Pass FAQ, how to apply.
Before the crowdsale opens and if you want to participate in the pre-sale phases, you can check if your wallet address was whitelisted. This can be done on the project contribution page (CHECK YOUR WALLET section). The detailed explanation of entire crowdsale process you can found here.
Once the crowdsale for a given project opens (starting with pre-sale phase 1), you will be able to become a supporter by contributing ETH from an ERC20 compatible wallet (Jaxx, MyEtherWallet, Parity, Mist, MetaMask etc.). If you have an active Cofound.it Priority Pass™ membership, you can follow this guide to make a contribution in the pre-sale using Jaxx or MyEtherWallet. The process will be the same for the public crowdsale.
If you’re new to crowdsales (or just need a bit of extra help) and want to get your Ether wallet ready in advance, just follow the step-by-step instructions we’ve prepared for you, starting with step 1.
